Yeah!
So, that was fun. Had a random broadcast at the stake center that I'm sure you all saw. We only found out it would happening a week before. Pretty awesome though. talked a TON about member missionary work. Which, you know, means a lot to me right now. Big moves are happening, that's for sure. Anyway, we've got to be fast today. The sisters just got here and they need to email too.
But anyway, we got the package you sent, it was amazing! The popits were particularly fun. We found a 문구 (odd office supply kind of store. Essentially a store solely for students. But it has LOTs of random fun stuff. Lot's of missionaries get trading cards here.) that has popits, but they're not as powerful as American. Sometimes they don't go off. These ones are the trumps now. (Korea does have Real fireworks at the same store, cheap. But... we're missionaries. Popits are the extent of our capabilities. And they're awesome.)
[Elder Lee's mom asked me, Elder Robarts' mom to ask Elder Robarts for ideas for Elder Lee's birthday] Anyway, as for Elder Lee... I need to do some more digging. I've been trying to find out stuff we could do for him too, but so far I'm still looking. --CHECK that. Possibly one of two things. We haven't been able to find an mp3 player for him yet. And there's a electric dictionary we've been trying to find too. iRiver? She could check it out, I'm not sure. But online could probably find one better that we could. Not sure what else. We've been able to get most of what we need or want.
So, life. Keep our friends in your prayers. We've got a family whose mom is having health problems, another who has been really stressed at work, and one whose life is just hard in general. Thank you so much. I'm so grateful for your prayers. They help a lot on the hard days, I'll tell you. We're meeting a lot of new people, but it's been hard meeting our constants lately. Some of our oldest friends have been getting really busy or otherwise unable to meet. Amazing how many forces you see working in missionary work when you look. from both sides. But the Lord's work is real. And it's powerful.
[see his Facebook page for pictures if the link doesn't work.  If you are not his Facebook friend but want to be, send a friend request, but also include a message.  He's been getting a lot of iffy-looking requests. - Mom]
That's it. Gotta run! But I love you. Have fun!

Dear Home,

Missionary work gets more and more fun. We had over 3/4 of our appointments this week cancel on us because of work, weddings, or funerals. Pretty intense, but we met some pretty awesome people. A scholar who wants to learn about the Book of Mormon, an awesome lady we met at her house (we talked before, so we wanted to stop by again. We talked, then she gave us her number and asked us to visit again. Really awesome, diligently studies the Bible, just can't really learn much about other churches because of a 90 year old mom that's really strict of a specific church. Nice though. ^^), a student that was curious about what we're doing in Korea, lots of other too.

Some things have been rough though. Our mission office is still shot. So we're almost out of supplies. We're serving in a four man house. Between the four of us, we have two copies of the Book of Mormon left. I'm 전도ing with an English one now... The hardest part is when you meet someone cool and you have to gauge whether or not to give them a copy. Hopefully we get up and running again. We meet supplies...
Also, the weather is a little funny now. There's this perpetual humidity. I can't tell if the sky is haze or cloud anymore. No shade though. Just solid white. Always sweating... I miss winter.

Anyway, that's fun. I've also got a picture to send you guys. You see, we live in the old sister house. And they left a TON of stuff behind. Weird to go through, but among those things is a very large supply of soaps. I found a small collection of skin creams and acne treatment stuff that I'm going through now. Kind of fun.

Outside of that, Life goes on. We helped a drunk guy cross the street. He was laying in the middle of the road with this other guy trying to help him up. He didn't realize we were there until we were halfway to the sidewalk. Took him by surprise a little. Will he remember us when he sobers? Probably not. And h may attribute it to the drunken haze, but it makes for a fun story.

We also tried singing in front of people's door as a new teaching approach. Didn't quite work... needs work. The initial surprise is fun, but they usually just slam the door again... We also got an old guy to dance, started speaking gibberish a little, did back flips with the Bishop's kids. (he comes out of a meeting with his kid and asks us to keep him happy while we waited for an appointment) It'd take too long to explain everything, but we were very dizzy when our friend came. (어지럽다 if you were wondering. Dizzy...)

Good times, keeping active. Anyway, picture time.

There were more district pictures, but that was the most official looking one. and I'm out of time. I love you guys! Thanks for your love! Until next week!

PS: busy week this time. Mission Tour, welcoming President Shin, President Furniss's farewell, should be fun. Yet another change. =D

Wow! What a week. A long one, and one with a rough ending. There's someone we're meeting with that we're really concerned about. I won't go into it, but if you could keep our friends in your prayers, I would appreciate it.

Anyway, I'll go ahead and start with the pictures from last week that I promised.

Dear Home,

This week was yet another missionary emotional roller coaster. Met an awesome family whose son is a GENIUS. Liked reading books since he was a kid. Self taught himself guitar, art, English, probably more. And he's good at them all. Especially English. ONLY book study, yet there's no accent, his feel of natural grammar is amazing... He's pretty much fluent. And such a cool kid. Likes going to church. ^^ We're trying to set up FHE with them and another family from the ward. ^^

Some hard times too, but we won't dwell on it. The Lord is with us. And transfers came. Nothing happened. Elder Lee and I are in for another super short transfer. Man I love this place. We've been having so much fun. Elder Lee is great with the guitar, and we found a damaged one in the streets. So we took it, cleaned it up, got it strung, and we've had it everywhere with us. So good for building relationships with people. Note to preparing missionaries: LEARN AN INSTRUMENT. It will serve you well.

I love you guys. Life is crazy here. Meeting tons of new people, including one whose English name is Jack Sparrow. An MC for disabled centers. Awesome guy, looking for God. Another who is a manager at one of these construction sites. Wants to show us around. Apparently has seen missionaries on the street quite a bit. ^^

I love this work. It's real. It's exciting. But I should probably get going pretty soon. Pictures took longer than I thought.

I hope everyone is doing well. I know here, I've been feeling more and more at home, but I still think of my real home a lot. Mostly people. So much can change in such a short time. I don't believe it's almost been a year... Gotta give it my all. Love you guys! Till next time!

Dear Home,

Just got back from a zone activity, crazy day, not much time. But today was amazing. Lot's of pictures later, I promise. ^^ We went to a Budhist Temple, a royal burial site, and a medival fortress. All in one day. Basically, another area met someone who knows a couple guys in tourism and the city council. Ended up getting us a full on tour bus. O.O One epic p-day though, I'll tell you. We even got to eat with some monks, some authentic vegitarian food that they eat. Normally people don't get to do that. Turns out I'd probably be okay going vegitarian. Assuming there's Korean food and preferably eggs and milk. Those I don't want to give us.

Anyway, this week was insane. Super busy, not much time to go into it. (one of the few downsides of today, used a LOT of time) But the guy we met last week is doing great. He came out again, he's doing some study on his own, he has a real interest in knowing more. So many things, I don't know where to begin. I love this place. It's hot, it's HUMID, and it's amazing. I try to schedule things so we're not outside in the afternoon. It's... deadly. But it's fun. There's a phone number you can call for weather reports. I use it for language study, and I'm starting to understand it. Useful that. Luckily, we've got a lot of appointments at the moment, so we aren't exposed too much. Just drink water. Constantly.

Hope everything is going well for everyone. Things are hectic here, but good. I'll see if I can pictures up. Some need explanations. =D

That's it. I'll try to get more pictures later. I literally took close to a hundred today. Time to wrap up and get back to work. ^^

Love ya!

Snail mail postmarked 27.05.2013

( and written on pretty stationery with flowers)

Ah, the joys of moving into a sister's house. Letter paper!
But yea, a little crazy around here. Lots of things changing around here.
So, let's start from the top
Elder Lee, a super star of a missionary. He's a track runner from Washington, loves exercising and wants to become a personal trainer. Plays piano, guitar, downright wizard at half the things he does. So fun to work with.
And we've seen some really cool miracles already. People who were converted (or at least baptized) decades ago finding an interest in the gospel again, new people coming out of nowhere that we can teach. Lots of less actives it feels like. I think that's what we are needing to learn now. How to help them.
I feel like rubbish not being able to write. Home, loved ones, even my journal some days. There's a lot to do at night. Then there are days you just want to collapse.
But I'll try to write again, even if it's not great. We're seeing miracles. New people moving into the ward, less actives appearing out of nowhere that we can help. Super cool new investigators. We met one this week, talked to him on the street. He said he had to go study, so we gave him our number and invited him to call when he had time. That same day we met with him.
At first he said he didn't have interest or background in religion, but as he read the intro to the Book of Mormon, you could see his face change.
He said he was more interested, but he wanted time to think. So we gave him a copy and said we'd love to answer his questions.
The Book of Mormon is something he can feel. It'll help him.
So many people like that... Elder Lee is incredible. Devoted, hardworking, fun. I get along great with him.
It feels so strange to be here. To think that I'm considered one of the “older” missionaries now. I still feel like I just got here.
As for the four man house, it probably doesn't help letter writing. If you're not swamped with people to call, there's always something to distract you. Something crazy going on.
But I'm glad for it. It's a good stress reliever, especially as a greeny. It helped me a lot to have someone other than my trainer to talk to. So for Elder Lee, it's great. And the food possiblities are great.
We're even getting fruit that's in season. (Pretty cheap here if you buy it at the right time) Smoothies in a missionary house... never thought Id see the day. Bu yeah, breakfast burritos, fried rice, kimchi chigae, so good. I've missed cooking like this.
Yep, I love you guys. Korea, too. Missionary work is insane, but exciting. Every day new things happen.
Learned something. Never fall into the trap of a post-zone activity Costco trip. Not really that great of an idea. There wasn't even chocolate. Got some salsa and tortillas though. Back to Mexican/Korean combo foods. Gotta love it.
But, yeah, I think I figured out where the time goes. To things that seemed like a good idea.
Anywho, some miracles we've been seeing lately: we're still meeting that really awesome family I mentioned, they've just been a little busy. But we're at the point where all they need is that answer for themselves. They're ready really. We just need to keep inviting.
Another family, recent converts, just moved in, super excited t meet wit them. Part member family, too, I think. But they seem really friendly.
Then there's the military base. We've got a member there that started talking with some other guy there. They're in a military hospital, so they have a lot of time to talk. They started on religion, and he wanted to share, but he doesn't feel like he knows enogh. He couldn't answer their questions, so he called us.
It's so awesome. He loves the Gospel. And every week we got to visit him and a new group of friends he brings. Planting seeds. One of them even asked about finding the church when he goes home in 3 months. Wanted to talk to the missionaries there.
Never quite had anything like it. It's incredible how the Lord has put things into place. How many people will get to hear the Gospel because this one member has a desire to share?
They aren't able to come to church while still soldiers, but we're planting seeds here, and it's an incredible place for it. I love this member, his testimony is so pure.
     2013.05.26
A couple other cool people we're working with. A family that I want to accept the Gospel so badly. They feel like members already. Their spirit is incredible. And they're going against their pastor to meet us. He's telling them not to. I know the Gospel will bless them. When I close my eyes, I can see them at the temple. I want it so badly. They've been busy lately, so it's been hard to meet, but they want to. And we want to. Pray for them. Pray that they'll feel something special.
(We met them last night, so it's hard to focus on writing something else)
We found a guitar in the road in a trash pile. Cleaned it up, got strings, Now Elder Lee and I can do musical spiritual thoughts. He's pretty good at guitar, too. Forgot to mention that.
Anyway, the guitar is named Elder Carlos. Oh yeah! And the mushroom has a name too. 저 도 Kinda simple, but I like it. The flower is Jane. If you ask why, 저 도 sounds a little like John Doe, so they're John Doe and Jane Doe. Cute, eh?
We use them to practice teaching. 저 도 is our guy investigators and Jane is our female ones.
I love you guys. I'm sorry I'm so bad about writing. I feel so stretched. I can't do what I need to. Journals, letters. There are even some people here I've wanted to write to, but there's never time.
I'm definitely experiencing missionary work though. Elder Lee and I are run ragged right now. Usually getting in around 9:05, 910. Yesterday 9:29. Always racing to get home.
But we're meeting miracles! Lots of people disappearing or unable to contact, but sommy more people that we meet that have incredible potential.
I want Elder Lee to see a baptism here. These people are too amazing to lose. They're almost there. I wish I could help them make that last step.
This Gospel is true. I know it is. I've seen too many people try and fail to convince me otherwise to doubt that.
Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. This life is short, but not the end. I look forward to standing before our Father in Heaven again, and when we do, I want it to be clear that I shared this message with as many as I could.
I'm not perfect. I make mistakes every day. I'ms still preparing for that day. But as weak as I am, I know the strength of my Redeemer. I'm His missionary. And I give my testimony in His name. Even Jesus Christ.
Until next time guys. I love you.

emai 2013.06.02

Dear Home,
Elder Robarts just got smart. Copying part of my President letter. Saving time for the win.
That was one crazy week. We had a ton of miracles with people being able to be contacted. There has been a small stack we've been working with that have basically just been unable to talk on the phone long enough to meet. But we talked with a lot of them, and set up a ton of appointments to meet. We've been pretty busy lately. Usually we have a couple appointments a day, and on the weekend we were pushing it pretty close. Going in, we had five appointments planned with investigators, four of which had members coming, along with English Class and a Service project, all in one day. We needed a member split just to make it work. That's where things went crazy. Every single appointment cancelled. The members were all set, the split was figured out, we just had a crazy string of bad luck. Twenty minutes before each appointment, everyone said something came up. Work, school, getting in late. It was a humbling day, but we saw a miracle. With all those appointments falling through, we were able to spend a little time on the street. And we met someone we needed to.
Here's his story: We're talking to some other guys who wasn't interested, but this new person heard us talking and stopped. Once we said bye to the first person, he said hello. At first, he just asked an english question about some song lyrics he'd heard, but it soon went so much deeper.
He said he'd moved back to Korea 3 months before after spending some time with his son who lives in the States. His wife passed away a long time ago, and his relationship with his only son is really hard right now. His son didn't want him to go back to Korea, stopped answering calls. Every week this man has been going out and drinking himself into oblivion just to make himself feel better. That day he made a decision to change. He wanted to go back to church, he wanted to give up drinking. Then he saw us. Same day from the sound of it. He saw us and commented on our smiles. He asked if he could come to church with us.
He lives alone here. He needs a friend, but even more he needs the peace the Gospel brings. Saturday we had five appointments fall through. I have no doubt in my mind that it was so we could find him. He came to church the next day.He wants to meet us again. Wants to come out to activities. I don't really know how to describe it as anything other than a miracle.
We've met so many incredible people here. I can't believe it. I don't want to leave this place. I feel like the windows of heaven are opening. There are days we're so busy there is honestly no time to hit the streets. I want this to keep going. I love this work so much. I love the souls we're meeting. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sending me to 유성. I have no doubt this is where I'm meant to be.
   Yeah, save so much time..
Even better. I've got friends on missions I can't write very much, and since they left, they can't read these weekly letters. This should work very fancy. ^^
Anywho, I LOVE THIS PLACE. I'm dying here. My body is at its limit, but we're doing great. I've felt the spirit so strongly here. It's undeniable.
I love you guys too. I pray for you often. I forget sometimes how much is going on in the rest of the world. But I love your letters, your words of encouragement. It gives me strength, even if it may sit unopened for a day or two while I fight for time to read it. But I'm pushing. I'm fighting for that journal time. I need it. It gives me inspiration for my investigators. I've been excited before, but I'm pretty sure a lot of these people will be baptized. The adversary is fighting hard though. So often we're physically unable to meet. He doesn't want them to hear this message. But this work cannot be stopped.
This week was exhausting, and this week looks similar. We need to call potentials, but half the time we don't have time to meet. I'm already cutting Elder Lee short on study time a lot of days. I feel bad about that. I know how crucial it is. But the work is on fire.
I might try to get some pictures in, then I'll get my journals out and see what I forgot.
~Elder Robarts
Pretty intense. Usually our days are pretty good. A couple teaching appointments, a little street time. Not bad.
But as for study: I've been seeing a lot of Satan's tactics through reading the BoM. The Lamanites and the Nephites had some nasty wars, but the obvious large intimidating Lamanites weren't what wiped the Nephites. It was the Gadianton Robbers. Those knife in the dark, less easily seen enemies. Most people won't kill anyone or something like that. But how many of us have those thoughts that we're not good enough? Or that God doesn't care? Or that little thingsdon't matter. Stuff to watch out for, that's for sure.
Also, training has helped me see where I personally have grown. Looking at those check your progress things again with Elder Lee, a went back to find my greeny ones, and it was cool to see how things have changed.
(Yep, we're in Korea. A monk just walked into the cafe hitting this little wooden thing... Not sure what it means, but it was pretty cool.)
Where was I? Point is, look back. See where you've grown. ^^ Also, Saturday taught me a lot. Every time an appointment falls through, assume there's somewhere He needs you to be. Someone He needs you to find.
Have a good one guys. Congratulations to people getting married and going on missions, happy birthday to people getting older, lots of love. I'll try to write more later. Bye!
